First rugby captain of Bristol University. Dental Surgeon. Dental practice with Thomas Sanders Worboys at 5 Goldsmid Road, Brighton. Married 1917 Verity Hope Fraser at Steyning, Sussex. Sussex County Hospital. Died 6th January 1954 The General Hospital, Brighton, Sussex.

Eberle, Ellison Fuller 1899-1900 Born 4th July 1883. Brother of George and Victor. Son of one of the founders of Clifton Rugby Club, James Fuller Eberle. Clifton College 1894-1899. Clifton RFC captain 1907-09. Died 2nd May 1968
Eberle, George Strachan John Fuller 1900-01 Born 14th October 1881. Brother of Victor and Ellison. Son of one of the founders of Clifton Rugby Club, James Fuller Eberle. Clifton College 1892-1900. Trinity College, Oxford. Rugby Blue 1901-1902. Joined Bristol RFC. He played in all the England trials of 1901/2 and 1902/3 but severely damaged a cartilage in the final trial in 1903. He was elected captain of Bristol, but again damaged the cartilage in the third match of the season, against Bridgwater on 26th September 1903 and never played again. After his injury he helped with the coaching at Clifton. Solicitor. Died 30th May 1968 Leigh Woods Golf Course.
Eberle, James Fuller 1872-73 Born 11th December 1854 20 St. James Street, Devonport. Founder of Clifton RFC. 1st Honorary Member. Father of Ellison, George and Victor. OBE 1919. Elected on to Bristol City Council as a Conservative councillor for St. Augustine ward. Freeman of the City of Bristol 1938. Died 21st April 1939 110 Pembroke Road, Clifton, Bristol.
Eberle, Victor Fuller 1905-06 Born 28th June 1887 Bristol. Brother of George and Ellison. Son of one of the founders of Clifton Rugby Club, James Fuller Eberle. Clifton College 1899-1905. Trinity College, Oxford 1905-1908. Captain from 1911-13. Managing Director of Henry Pritchard & Co. Ltd., a director of several other companies and a member of the council of Clifton College from 1927. Died 14th August 1974 Southmead Hospital, Bristol.

 

 

Edwards, Arthur Mansell 1872-73 Born 1851 Clifton, Bristol. Son of George William Edwards, Tobacco Manufacturer (Edwards, Ringer & Bigg), and May Hassall (nee ?). Christened 22nd October 1851 St Andrews, Clifton, Bristol. Brother of Herbert George. His father was Lord Mayor of Bristol 1876-1878 and 1886. Tobacco Manufacturer. Married 1881 Henrietta Agnes Julia Lucas in Hereford. His wife was born in Bruges, Belgium. Died 14th June 1905 in Reigate, Surrey

Edwards, George Dall 1901-02 Born 1st September 1883 Henbury, Bristol. Brother of Philip and son of Herbert George Edwards, Tobacco Manufacturer and Eleanor (nee ?). Clifton College 1893-1900. Captain 2nd Sherwood Foresters. Married Marjorie Schofield ?. High Sherif of Berkshire 1945. Died 23rd January 1959 Worthing, Sussex.  
Edwards, Herbert George 1872-73 Born 5th October 1853. Son of George William Edwards, Tobacco Manufacturer (Edwards, Ringer & Bigg), and May Hassall (nee ?). Brother of Arthur. Father of Philip and George Clifton College from 1863 to 1870. He joined Clifton RFC 1872-73. Master of the Society of Merchant Venturers in 1899. Member of Bristol City Council. Died 4th February 1927 Bristol.

Edwards, Philip Arthur 1906-07

Born 22nd June 1888 Henbury, Bristol. Brother of George and son of Herbert. Clifton College 1899-1906. Sandhurst. Killed in Action 18th March 1916 shot by a German sniper in the trench known as the North Arm of the Double Crassier, Near Loos. Buried at Merocq Soldier's Cemetery.

Married 1905 Annie Marguerite Young. Captain RASC WW1. Levant Merchant. Farmer. Freeman of the City of Bristol. Died 19th February 1926 10 Cavendish Road, Henleaze, Bristol. Buried 23rd February 1926 Canford Cemetery, Bristol.  
Ekin, Charles 1889-90 Born 11th November 1870 Bath. Somerset. Son of Charles Ekin, Pharmacutical Chemist, and Maria (nee ?). Father owned a Chemists firstly in Grantham, Lincs with Francis Dixon Fisher until 1879 and then until 1895 with Edward Joseph Appleby at 8 Argle Street, Bath called Ekin & Appleby. Clifton College 1885-1890. Clare College, Cambridge. Athletics Blue 1891, 1892. Adm. Solicitor, April 1897. Married 12th August 1902 Ellen Mary Brown in Birmingham. President of the Birmingham Law Society, 1923. Of 36, Waterloo Street, Birmingham, in 1941. Registrar, Diosese of Birmingham 1925. Died 22nd June 1951 Birmingham.

Born 1889 Tiverton, Devon. Son of John Francis Ellerton, Grocer and Mayor of Tiverton, and his second wife Florence (nee Hart). Blundells School. Banker. Married 1917 Editha Wilton, daughter of Sir Thomas Wilton in Totnes, Devon. Founded Woodford RFC 1924. Died 7th December 1955 Stratheden, 29 Broomhill Road, Woodford Green, Essex. Cremated. Memorial Service 10th December 1955 at Woodford Green United Free Church.

Civil Engineer. 2nd Lt Royal Engineers WW1. Died of Wounds 20th December 1917 Abeeville, France. Buried Abeeville Community Cemetery.

Surveyor. Married 1934 Phyliss Barbara Collings in Bristol. Played rugby for Somerset. Died 11th August 1963 Bristol.

Etlinger, Thomas Edmund guest player 1895 Born 7th September 1872 Streatham Hill, London. Son of Edmund E Etlinger, Civil Engineer, and Charlotte (neee Kincaid). His father was from Russia. Rugby School. Played rugby for Middlesex and played once for South Africa against Great Britain at Cape Town, on 5th September 1896. Played cricket for Natal, Western Province. Died 23rd February 1953 Leatherhead, Surrey. His brother Henry was killed in WW1

Evans, Stuart 1919-20 Born 23rd April 1896 Bristol. Son of Alfred Evans, Clerk in County Court, and Isaballa (nee Cockle). Clifton College 1910-1911. Solicitor, Articled to Henry Dixon, of Bristol. Joined Nov. 16, 1914, as 2nd Lieut., 6th (Service) Batt. South Wales Borderers (Pioneers), promoted Lieut. Dec. 1916, Capt. May 1918, transferred to Indian Army Reserve of Officers Oct. 1917 and attached to 130th K.G.O. Baluchis. Once mentioned in Dispatches. Awarded the M.C. Served in France Sept. 1915 to May 1916, India Dec. 1917 to May 1918, Palestine June to Nov. 1918, Egypt Nov. 1918 to March 1919. Accidentally wounded in France Feb. 20, 1916. Wounded on Vimy Ridge May 16, 1916. Married 8th January 1930 Barbara Riseley in Weybridge, Surrey. She was the daughter of former Clifton player Arthur Henry Riseley. They were the parents of Clifton player Martin Stuart Evans (1960s). Lt.Col WW2. Died 30th May 1984 Cowlin House, Pembroke Road, Clifton, Bristol. Cremated Canford Cemetery 6th June 1984.
