He was born on the 13th October 1892 in Worthing, Gloucestershire. He was educated at Clifton College from 1906 to 1909 and the Bristol University Engineering School. He was in his 2nd year at Caius College, Cambridge when war broke out. He joined Clifton RFC in 1909-10.

He was the son of John Ryan Bennett and Florence Rachel Bennett, of 3 Upper Belgrave Road, Clifton, Bristol. The family owned Collieries in Easton, Bedminster and Kingswood.

He obtained his commission in September 1914 and went to France in August 1916.

He was gazetted Captain in the 11th Bn., The King's (Liverpool Regiment) in January 1916

He died on the 23rd March 1918 aged 25

He is remembered on the Pozieres Memorial.

His sister Evelyn Bennett of 12 Pembroke Vale, Clifton, Bristol died on the 15th March 1956.

His name on the Clifton College Memorial Arch.
