In November 1990 Bristol forward Alan Sharp joined Clifton. He returned to Bristol for the 1992/93 season

Alan Sharp had represented England Schools and England B but also represented Scotland u19 and u21. He was selected to play for Scotland against Ireland in 1993 but was diagnosed with a fractured leg on the eve of the match. He commenced playing for Scotland the following season. His international career was regularly interrupted by injuries which made him miss the 1995 World Cup. He left Bristol at the end of the 1995/96 season and joined Coventry, returning once more to help Bristol to promotion from the second division in 1998-99. He retired at the end of the 1999-2000 season and is now landlord of The Bear and Rugged Staff pub on Southmead Road in Bristol.

Above programme cover and team sheet of Alan Sharps debut for Scotland v England on 5th February 1994. This match was won with a last minute penalty by Jonathan Callard. The replay showed that referee had made the wrong call when penalizing Scotland for a handling the ball on the ground in a ruck, when it was an English hand.
