Bob Lloyd played only a handful of games for Clifton at the start of the season in 1961/62 before the Harlequins in the form of Roger A.M Whyte (who also played for Clifton) convinced him to play for Harlequins, driving up to London from Bristol together to play initially for one of the "A" XV's, then the Wanderers (2nd) XV and 4 games in the 1st XV that same season.

Bob Lloyd was selected to play for England on their tour of the Far East in 1971. Matches were played as follows:- Japan 3, Hong Kong 1, Singapore 1 and Sri Lanka 1. He also played in Japan against Washeda University in Tokyo and won. The 2nd and 3rd matches were against Japan although no caps were awarded. The 1st of these was in Osaka and because Tour Captain Budge Rogers was unfit to play he was appointed Captain on the day. England won the game fairly comfortably but the England Captain was criticised by the Tour Coach for allowing the ball to go beyond the flyhalf! "Kick into the box". Back in Tokyo for the 2nd match versus Japan the tour party was keen to put the record straight with a resounding display. Budge Rogers was restored to the Captaincy and Bob Lloyd was rested. England could only manage a 6-6 draw. (results need to be verified)
Robert Hoskins Lloyd BSc, CEng, MHKIE, FICE, graduated from Hatfield Polytechnic in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. A Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, United Kingdom since October 1997 and a member of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers since 1973.
Bob Lloyd captained Harlequins for 2 seasons, 1970/71 & 1971/72. He left England to work in Hong Kong for the Hong Kong Government in August 1973where he worked for 30 years. He then worked for Chun Wo Construction for 3 years and retired in June 2007.
Bob Lloyd is mentioned on page 73 of the Official Programme of the England v New Zealand match at Twickenham on 27th November 1993 under "Match Records - Most Tries" by a player for England. At that time only Prince Obolensky and Bob Lloyd had scored 2 tries for England in a match v New Zealand. I will attempt to send separately by e-mail a scanned version of the relevant page. Subsequently, Will Carling and Rory Underwood achieved that feat in the Rugby World Cup in South Africa in 199(?). Topsy Ojo also achieved that feat during England's unsuccessful tour to New Zealand in the summer this year. However, only 3 players have scored 2 tries for England v New Zealand on their debut - Prince Obolensky, Bob Lloyd and Topsy Ojo.
