1980

Chris Board joins Clifton. He had previously played for Bristol United.

1980-1981

1981

Colonel Gilbert Castle, M.C.,T.D.,D.L. dies in July 1981 aged 88. His career with Clifton Rugby Club spanned 66 years. As soon as he left Bristol Grammar School in 1911 he joined Clifton as a player and finally retired from playing in 1926. Then he became a Club Administrator until elected President in 1951.

During the First World War he reached the rank of lieutenant-Colonel at the age of 24. Beginning his military career, with the 4th (City of Bristol) Battalion of the Gloucestershire Regiment. He was with Gloucestershire RFU and also served at RFU headquarters at Twickenham.

1982-1983

Moment of elation for Bristol’s Alan Morley and Pete Polledri as Lawrence Yandell crashes over for a try in the John Player Cup 23-3 semi-final win over Coventry.

Above programme cover and teamsheet for the John Player Cup Final which Bristol won 28-22. Alan Morley and Pete Polledri went on to coach at Clifton. Simon Hogg, Ralph Knibbs and Kevin Bogira went on to play for Clifton. In the Leicester side was Clive Woodward and a 20 year old Dean Richards.

1984-85
